Christmas Lights

While quiet stillness reigns about
In the dark of night
Lights a’glimmer everywhere
Shine with all their might Twinkling, twirling, flickering
Some a steady glow
The Christmas lights all colors bright
Reflecting in the snow

Ambiance warms outside
And deeper cold within
The shining lights beckon us
Look here, look here again
Trees wrapped red- or green-and-white
Down the streets do march
And firmly stand guarding close
Decorated yards

Reindeer, snowmen, Santas tall
Frolic then harken
Limos driving people by
Photographing them
Snowflakes dance across the walls
Of festive houses lit
Lawns display nativities
And giant ornaments

No matter soon our sleeping hour
We drive on and on
Mesmerized by Christmas lights
Rejoicing season’s songs
Then around the bend we see
A form of Christ the King
Arms outstretched for all to come
He lights Eternity

Rejoice oh lights with us now
Remember why you glow
Commemorate, n’er forget
The Star of long ago
Light guiding still
Through dark’s despair
Calling while we plod
Illumines paths, brightens hearts
Lights our way to God

LORD, thank You for bringing and being the Light in this darkened world. Amidst our busyness please draw us into Your presence, peace, and rest. Give us hearts of hope and trust in You as we celebrate You this Christmas time. With praise and thanksgiving we pray in Jesus’ holy name. Amen.

Psalm 119:105 NLT
“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”

John 14:6 NLT
“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”

John 8:12 NLT
“Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.’”

  1. Thank you Sherry. That was beautiful and uplifting. I look at all the Christmas decorations and see yards of blow-up Santa’s; I can see past them now and see only the light of our Lord shining through it all.
Merry Christmas to you and your family,
    Charlaine
