Relinquishing Self

Why does this irritating trait
Rise within my soul
Though crucified
Through Christ’s blood
Is self-love reigning in my heart
Hard to let me go

The warp and woof of daily things
Interrupted by my thoughts
Hasty words only bring
Correction when I ought
To patiently forebear
Quietly forebear

Irritants a crucible
Reveals the stubborn dross
A fire burning ugliness
A holocaust for selfishness
If Christ is LORD
Then I must
Nail all me to His Cross

LORD, help me please
With contrite heart
Die to self-love’s plea
Let others have their say
Conform me to Your grace
Let my heart bow humbly
Give my all to Thee

~~~
LORD, forgive my wrongs. Help me forebear with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Thank You for promising to produce these things in me as You sanctify my soul. Be a guard over my emotions, thoughts, and words, please. Let my self-love die and be replaced with Your divine love. Resurrect Yourself in me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Galatians 5:24-26 NLT
“Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.”
James 1:19 NLT
“Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.”
