Voices

What voices am I listening to
Defining life, how I should be
Not only in the world around 
But also what I think of me 
Do they tell the truth

Have you ever heard inside 
A voice insisting you are small 
Diminished in some unique way
Not good enough, somehow wrong 
Just because you’re you

When I found in Christ my self 
Known, beloved, cherished well
Forgivable, redeemed, made new
Pulled from the very gates of hell
Could hope grow up in me 

When those plaintive voices heard
Are brought to Light, examined full
Next to Truth from heaven reaching
Lies are discarded, Truth beseeching 
Through God’s unchanging Word

Truth’s pure voice guides how to live
God’s grand design, for our best 
Correction’s not an awful task
Redemption from the lies at last 
Brings healing, makes us well 

Could I shout out loud enough
The Truth God’s shown my hurting soul 
That others caught in lies’ tight webs
Could find their freedom sure as well
Unending joy to know 

“Come and See” what’s in store
For those redeemed from sin’s hard grip 
Walk into God’s Kingdom life 
T’wards the ever dawning light 
And Love’s eternal shore

LORD, thank You for Your immeasurable love. Give us ears to hear and hearts to listen to and heed Your voice, that we may discern and reject the seductive lies that entice us away from You and Your best for us. Teach us to abide in You, to trust and rest in Your direction and good will. Thank You that You are Truth, and the One who forgives and makes us new. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
