A Grain of Sand

Who are you small grain of sand
Lost ‘mongst trillions in the sea
Washed and tossed and swirled around
Gulped, spit out repeatedly
And yet you’ve stuck somewhere fast
Encapsulated in your world
‘Til light shined on opened shell
Look! What wonder! You’re a pearl!

Had you ever barely dreamed
Beyond confines of tiny frame
To become one day so fine
After years of hidden strain
Lost within a great unknown
Never knowing you could change
With joy to find you’re carefully wrought
Beyond yourself and tiny spot

Glory to the Gracious King
Whose plans, designs beyond our ken
Surprise, delight when radiance brings
Luminance to once dull things
Purpose filling every one
Fashioned deftly by His hand
Reaching from the vast unseen
Even to this grain of sand

LORD, thank You for Your great mercy. For rescuing us from our brokenness, rough and destructive edges, emptiness, failure, and obscurity, and transforming us to reflect Your goodness and glory. As cherished children who esteem and bring honor to their parents, may we glorify You, LORD. Thank you for treasuring us above jewels of highest worth. Oh, to properly accept such great a gift! Thank You, Father, for loving us. Help us show our love to You and to one another. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Psalm 139:15 NKJV
“My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.”

1 Peter 1:6-7 NLT
“So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. 7 These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.”

Psalm 16:5 NKJV
“O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot.”
