Curious Little Chirps

Hi, friends,

Thank you all for coming on this journey with me to let A Curious Little Bird: Tales of Hope, Whimsy, and Faith fly into the world. I hope you’re enjoying the stories, and discovering new things as you dig into the journal prompts.

Now, several weeks past the launch date, a sweet surprise landed near me.

After watering the flower baskets on the porch, I sat on the couch while dear hubby drifted into a nap in his recliner. In the silence, I heard curious little chirping just outside our windows and glass patio doors—the first birdsong I’ve heard this spring.

My heart smiled. God brings encouragement in so many unexpected ways. Hearing bird song, especially the sorrow-filled cooing of mourning doves at “just the right time” whenever I’m going through a trial, has frequently strengthened me; it brings an exquisite blessing. How about you? Do you have favorite birdsong that sings especially to your heart?

The tiny bird’s chirping was unique. One, then two, or three, four, five chirps in a row…insistently, as if to say Keep hoping. Stay strong. God’s got you. Even though you can’t see me, I’m here, your own curious little bird.

If you’ve read the first chapter of my book, you’ll understand the significance of this birdsong today…whimsy, hope, and faith singing, again, into an old woman’s heart.

This little bird’s concert was such a gift. I expect Emily Dickinson heard something similar before she penned: “Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul and sings the tune without the words and never stops at all…”

It’s fun when glad story is or becomes your reality. When your heart is empty or sore, even when you know not why. Then, unexpectedly a curious little bird enters your life. I believe hope-whimsy-faith is the new song God has given me to sing.

My curious little bird is still chirping! Can you hear it?

As I finished writing this…dear hubby awakened. I asked if he could hear the chirping, too. He put his hearing aids back in and the chirping…stopped…but for an occasional little tweet from his ears. What? Were those my husband’s hearing aids singing to me for over a half hour? Ha!

I laughed. Life gets curiouser and curiouser!

I think God has a sense of humor. What do you think?
