Kansas Wind

It skips across the rolling plains
Down grassy streams, o’er rippled ponds
Bends trees and landscape to it’s will
Then swirls away to somewhere Oz

Clutching steering wheel tight
Rocking through buffeting sounds
Will we also fly away
Spinning up and round and round
To land in someplace Oz

No Munchkins seen along this path
Not yellow-bricked but asphalt gray
Roads leading home eventually
Miles by step, years by day

Perhaps the birds in glorious flocks
Soaring, twisting in the light
Are darting in and out of Oz
Will take our wonder with their flight
Into other realms

No matter where these winds do blow
Or wondrous stories left behind
“…no place like home” rings in our hearts
Belonging’s quest a home to find

Ecclesiastes 1:6 NKJV
“The wind goes toward the south, And turns around to the north; The wind whirls about continually, And comes again on its circuit”

Hebrews 11:16
“But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.”

Philippians 3:20
“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ”

Note: The old movie “Wizard of Oz” comes to mind every time we drive through Kansas. Last year I wrote a short piece titled Somewhere In Kansas. If you’d like another peek at Kansas you can find that post alphabetically in the Musings Library. When in Kansas hang on to your hat!
